our Manderley

Time again to return to Cornwall.

Visiting dear Aunt and tending to her home on her behalf.
Late October such a quiet, unassuming but beautiful time of year.

The orchard following the grass cut and collection of the fruit fall ...

“When I sound the fairy call, gather here in silent meeting,
Chin to knee on the orchard wall, cooled with dew and cherries eating. ”
~ Emily Dickinson

Mr Bingley

Official orchard clearing inspector!

Mr Darcy

Official Spider patrol

.. and the reason for coming ...

“May you find serenity and tranquility
in a world you may not always understand”

When we left Aunt, we went down into Looe to have a drink in the old Salutations with friends and while walking there we saw this cat in the window of a posh clothes shop. It was after hours but clearly he had sneaked in and was bedding down on an angora jumper ....
We have seen him in Looe many times and have been told he lives - mainly - with one of the shop owners in the street, but shares himself with others, as and when.
In this case... he felt in the mood for a night of luxury.

“There is no den in the wide world to hide a rogue”
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

The best Bus Stop ever! (Fowey).
Underneath the painted figure it reads...

“Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again..."
~ Daphne  du Maurier, Rebecca

Coffee and a spot of time out ...

.. for all concerned ...

..  and then when we left, we locked up to this from the sitting room window.

~ Rabindranath Tagore, Stray Birds

Farewell Cornwall... for the moment

  1. Lovely photos, I hope the visit was a good one. If I remember correctly, your aunt has Alzheimers or another form of dementia. I don't know how far it's progressed, but I wish you all universal Blessings and Mercy and Peace.

  4. I've never read Rebecca, but I've recently bought it and it's now in the pile waiting to be read. I loved the film though. We've been to Cornwall for holidays for the last few years and I love it there, though never to the South coast. I'd really like to visit the places you mention. Glad the cat in Looe has found his own little piece of luxury, and it looks like Mr.Darcy and Mr.Bingley have too.

  9. Would you believe I photographed the very same cat in Looe whilst we were there in September last year? It came out of an alleyway between shops and strolled down the street in front of us. Good work Mr Darcy and Mr Bingley with your orchard clearing supervision and spider detection:)

  18. So nice that you go there and take care of her place. Great that the two helpers, D and B, could go with you.

As I will never get to that part of the world, I do enjoy seeing it through your many views.

  22. I love that first capture - such tranquility!! I think it is due to the golden light!
And wouldn't you want an angora bed every once in a while?
I also love that last quotation. I will have to put that one on the wall...
